It’s Nice How

By Erin Kim

men held captive aren’t the same if

separated but

somehow we all speak

the same first words. it seems

a man can see men looking at him

without looking at them and this

fascinates me

but how come i’ve never tried

to realize that stars don’t disappear in the daytime.

i think of the famous hare who needed a rest and in

taking one

was shunned for a lifetime.

solitude when it’s tempting is

the best panacea,

except it happens every time you appear and

by you i mean,

the last i talked out loud i was trapped in a soliloquy that i

wished was a conversation, so

i am excited about rebirth although

i do not believe in it

but if i did

it’d be a real tragedy, wouldn’t it?

it’s nice how men feel a man’s pain before they see it

and choose to look anyway

but it’s sickening how the man realizes he’s being looked at

and shoots the mouth.
